Practical Nursing Program
What is the MPI Practical Nursing (PN) program?Through a program in nursing theory and practice incorporating the physical, social and applied sciences, MPI PN prepares its students with the technical knowledge, functional skills, and decision-making abilities to provide entry or technical level nursing practice in structured health care settings. The program will also prepare students for the NCLEX-PN to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) who are valued members of the healthcare community. How do I apply? There are three steps to join the PN program:
The pre-test:MPI requires that all students interested in the Practical Nursing program take a pre-test before the TEAS. MPI's pre-test is a free test to determine eligibility for the TEAS. If the applicant scores 80% or higher on the pre-test, he or she can then apply to take the TEAS. The pre-test consists of thirty questions, mostly multiple choice, on the basics of English, math, reading comprehension, and science. Applicants will have thirty minutes to complete the pre-test. Following the pre-test, applicants will have another thirty minutes to answer two essay questions. Upon passing the pre-test, applicants will register to take the TEAS. (The TEAS costs $40.) A TEAS study guide is available at MPI. To take the pre-test, please call MPI at (781) 397-6822 to schedule a test time. PN info session:People who are interested in applying to the PN program are required to attend a PN info session for information regarding the program. Info sessions are held on the first Wednesday of each month. The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS):The TEAS is a computer-based test used by schools nationwide to test students applying for nursing programs. Students must meet the following minimum score requirements:
The TEAS test will be administered at MPI on December 22nd, 2009. Applicants must arrive at MPI 15 minutes early to complete the online TEAS registration form. Please note: Your application for the TEAS will NOT be considered unless you have completed the pre-test and scored 80% or higher! Also, applicants may only re-schedule their TEAS examination once. To re-schedule, applicants must call prior to the exam. The application process:Once you have passed both the pre-test and the TEAS, you may apply to the PN program. First, you must fill out and submit the PN application. Once you have completed and submitted the application, MPI will review your application and may contact you to schedule an interview. NOTE: All application items MUST be submitted together. Please do not submit transcripts, references, or any other application materials separately. |
