About the program
What is a medical assistant?A medical assistant (MA) performs office administrative tasks and/or medical tasks in hospitals and other clinical settings. Depending on the size of the office in which the MA works, the MA's job duties may be only administrative: receiving patients, scheduling appointments, and answering telephones. Or, an MA may be required to assist with clinical duties as well, such as performing venipuncture or taking vital signs. How is a medical assistant's job outlook?According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the medical assistant field will be one of the fastest growing occupations from 2004 to 2014. This is due to several factors: the growth and aging of the population, growing demand for medical assistants in a health care industry already expanding quickly, and advances in medicine and medical technology. What will I learn in MPI's Medical Assistant program? The Medical Assistant program prepares students for both administrative and clinical duties, including medical billing and coding, pharmacology, electrocardiography (EKG), and medical office administration. For a complete list of all the courses (and their descriptions) in MPI's Medical Assistant program, please see the course list below. What happens after I graduate?MPI's student support services assists students with their job search after they graduate. Graduates also have the unique opportunity to work with Medical Professional Staffing (MPS) to be placed in a job in their medical field. Graduates will be qualified to apply for entry-level medical assistant positions in a variety of health care settings. They will also be prepared to sit for national certification examinations. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states: "Job prospects should be best for medical assistants with formal training or experience, particularly those with certification." MPI is one of few schools that prepare students for certification as medical assistants. Schedule
