About the program

What is an emergency room technician?


An emergency room technician is an individual who assists and supports emergency room nurses and doctors in the performance of procedures in the emergency or urgent care department in providing health care to patients.

What will the Emergency Room Technician Program do for me?


The program focuses on teaching the necessary knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level emergency room technician. Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to:
  • Apply their skills, knowledge and capabilities in the emergency room practice.
  • Assist doctors and nurses in the assessment and emergency care of patients.
  • Provide competent support to the emergency room department by performing clinical procedures with skill and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and critical thinking in their chosen fields of expertise.
  • Function within the legal guidelines and ethical framework of their practice.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other health care professionals as a team to provide optimum health care to patients, families or significant other.
  • Commit themselves to serve the needs of others regardless of their ethnicity, gender, age and social status.

What happens after I graduate?


MPI's student support services assists students with their job search after they graduate. Graduates also have the unique opportunity to work with Medical Professional Staffing (MPS) to be placed in a job in their medical field. Graduates will be prepared both to work in a health care setting at an entry level, and to sit for national certification examinations in phlebotomy.

Program admission requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED and transcript
  • Institute's entrance examination
  • Completed application
  • Interview with the admissions office
