MPI is excited to announce the opening of its new Nurse Assistant Program. With the addition of this program, which gained ABHES accreditation on March 25, MPI now has eight certificate programs.

A nurse assistant provides routine care for patients in a healthcare facility to allow nurses to perform their more specialized tasks. The duties of a nurse assistant include feeding, bathing, transporting, and otherwise assisting patients in hospitals, residents in long term care facilities, and clients in their homes.

The Nurse Assistant Program consists of two courses. The Fundamentals of Patient Care course prepares students for working with patients and performing the basic tasks required of a nurse assistant. In this course, students will practice and demonstrate their patient care skills in the laboratory. Students will also participate in clinical experiences at health care agencies. The Home Health Aide course prepares students for providing care for clients in their homes. Since the program is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, students who complete the program will be eligible to take the state licensing examinations to become Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA) and Certified Home Health Aides.
