On Sunday, September 24, 2006, Medical Professional Institute (MPI) conducted it's third annual graduation ceremony at the Beebe elementary school in Malden.

At 2:00 pm, the large auditorium filled with excitement as supportive family members, friends, and children gathered together to recognize the accomplishments of the MPI graduates.

Forty graduates, dressed in burgundy caps and gowns, marched across Pleasant street, through the Beebe School playground and into the elementary school. The line of graduates proceeded down the steps of the auditorium and seated themselves in front of the stage.

Melissa Valley, Master of Ceremonies and Director of Admissions welcomed the crowd to the celebratory event and congratulated everybody on their great achievements. Melissa announced:

"I have seen many of you go through the admissions process, through classes, through externships and on to succeed in your careers... I would like to congratulate you on your great achievements."

After the introductory welcome, Melissa introduced the President of MPI, Majid Pourshadi. Dr. Pourshadi praised the graduates for their hard work and dedication to their studies at MPI. He also encouraged them to keep up their standards when entering the workforce. Dr. Pourshadi stated:

"Please remember the high standards of work that you have learned at MPI, I hope that you will bring these into your jobs and continue to be succeed in your professional lives."

The President's message was then followed by the commencement remarks, delivered by guest speaker, Michael Laposata. Dr. Laposata, who recently joined MPI's Board of Trustees, is a Director of Clinical Laboratories and a physician in the Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also holds a faculty position at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Laposata began his story with a history of his family, and growing up in Johnstown, PA during the depression. He recalled memories of his father, and the family barbershop. Dr. Laposata recalled, with fondness, this time in his life. He departed words of wisdom to the graduates, and stated:

"Remember what is important. Whether you are finishing your education, or whether this is a stepping stone to another career goal. You may receive titles and money in the future, but this is not what will make you happy. Having enough to provide for your selves and your families and to make a meaningful contribution in your work is what is most important."

Dr. Laposata's commencement remarks were followed by the Teaching Excellence Award, received by Maha Venkataraman, The Academic Excellence Awards, and the graduate's message, delivered by Mark Hersey, Jr.

The festive mood, enhanced by burgundy and gold balloons, refreshments and photo shoots, continued into the late afternoon in the cafeteria. Here, the MPI community gathered together for one last time to congratulate the graduates and to wish them well in the future.
